Great Britain 1945 by KG Kristoffersson www.classicpicture.se

KG Kristoffersson.

War photographer.

Photographer KG Kristoffersson was born May 15 1918. Already at an early age he had an interest in photography and was only 21 years old when he became a war photographer. In December 1939 he went together with legendary Swedish journalist Barbro Alving to Finland. They visited the front lines and towns in Finland that lay in ruins by Russian bombing and reported back with text and pictures to Swedish papers and magazines.

Published in picture magazines.
During the World War 2 the Swedish magazine Se was one of the most successful publications in Sweden. The magazine was started with American Life magazine as a role model. Only the best photographers had their pictures published and the quality was high.
KG Kristoffersson was one of those photographers. His pictures of everything from celebrities to daily life became popular and was published almost every week.
He also had his pictures published on the cover of Life Magazine.

Postwar Britain 1945.
Shortly after the World War 2 had ended,  Kristoffersson travelled through Great Britain during three months in the fall of 1945 beginning in september. Notes found by the photographer tells that he travelled alone, taking pictures and writing the texts. Initially he only had the plan to stay for one month, it became three. He mentions that it was hard to find film and photographic equipment. The camera he used was a Rolleiflex. Kristoffersson travelled in Wales and in bombed Coventry. He photographed the bombed buildings and town.  The collection of negative originals that became the result of his photography, was just until recently never catalogued or scanned. He met and photographed Nobelprize winner Alexander Fleming, Actor Laurence Olivier and other famous people at the time. Kristoffersson has mentioned that he had trouble getting Mr Olivier interested in being photographed, but once it happened, he describes the theatre superstar as easy going and cooperative. Kristoffersson also documented a boxing match at Albert Hall between swede champion Olle Tandberg and british light champion and also actor Eddie Phillips.   He also documented every day life of people living the postwar life. This collection of photographs is being edited and more of his original negatives are scanned. What a chance for a publisher to make an amazing photo book about the time just after the WWII. The pictures are currently being edited and more text that has been found, is added.

Ingmar Bergmans photographer.
Kristoffersson was on set when the Swedish film director produced his early films in 1940s and 1950s. The collection of his Ingmar Bergman pictures from this time is of great historical significance.  Kristofferssons pictures of Ingmar Bergman has been published in the well-renowned The Ingmar Bergman Archive XL, tv-programs, books and exhibitions.

KG Kristoffersson was one of Sweden's most productive photographers with a unique archive left behind and in our care. His archive dating from 1939, is a great source for picture-searchers.
